Meet Becky DossI was born in Greensboro and grew up in the Sumner Community in the southern portion of Guilford County. I graduated from Southern Guilford High School and attended GTI, now known as GTCC, graduating with an Associate Degree in Business Administration. My insurance career began the week after graduation. I remained with Travelers Insurance Company for 17 years in one of their largest claims offices, servicing the AT&T account. I started in the position of Assistant Claims Processor and rose to the position of Claims Manager. It was a very challenging position with many changes along the way. I went from manual processing of claims (hand writing all information), through three different computer systems. The advent of each new system brought on many hours of overtime during the week and on the weekends. I had days that began at 7:00 a.m. and lasted until after 10:00 p.m., and back the next day at 7:00 a.m.! But, we all survived. Travelers was one of the first group companies to be bought out. This which brought on downsizing and I was part of that. I was given a very nice severance package, which enabled me to be a stay-at-home mom for over a year. My husband Steve and I have two boys, Christopher and Daniel. Both are very active and love sports of all kinds. We built a home in the same community I grew up in. I enjoy being involved in my childrens school and PTA activities. In my spare time, I love to quilt, or work in the yard with my flowers and plants. In August of 1995, I returned to the working world here at Group U.S.. I started out by learning the quoting system and assisting De Bloh with new sold cases. I now handle all the individual sold cases and small group sold cases 5 employees and under. We try to review all new cases for any items missing that underwriting will need. We then work closely with the carriers to get them the information they need. We can get missing information to underwriting by e-mail or fax. This follow-up reduces paperwork and downtime for our agents, enabling them to spend more time on whats important—sales and prospecting! My position at Group U.S. has been a true learning experience. The new business underwriting requirements vary widely. Each company has its own forms and time tables. I see my job here at Group U.S. as ever changing, even more than when I worked in claims. I really enjoy working with everyone here at Group U.S.. Were a team, working well together. My duties also include handling the agent appointments for the various insurance companies we work with. This, too, requires familiarity with each companys requirements so that the licensing, contracting and appointment process is completed in a timely manner. I find each day at Group U.S. to be an interesting challenge. Phone calls, voice mail, e-mail and agent visits keep me constantly busy. There is always paperwork to be reviewed and completed. It is very important to keep agents informed and get the job done in a timely manner. The fact that we all work as a team together makes it possible.
